Kanpachi is an authentic Sushi bar in a strip mall off of Normandie and W. Artesia Blvd. I just went here for lunch and got a yummy sushi bowl, also called chirashi sushi. Its a bowl of rice that has sushi as the topping. The #4 is a combination bowl includes cuts of various fish, octopus, mushroom, fish eggs and rice. The presentation was really pretty (especially the pink sweet powder) and it was really good. The fish and octopus was really fresh, however the salmon was not as firm. *maybe it was because I saved it for last and it was sitting out for 30 min. But it was good.
The interior decor was really nice and really captures the authentic Japanese feel. The sushi bar takes up most of the tiny restaurant and looks like a small hut below a little wood beams. The biggest tables seat 4 and are divided by tall wooden walls. The sushi bar is tiny and holds around 12 people.
Tip: This place is very authentic … they speak Japanese and the wasabi is great!
Big groups: Not really, it’s small and meant for 2-4 people at a time.
Date spot: Casual date
